Effective Networking Skills

Social Network concept

Not everyone is a fan of networking. However, networking is essential to growth and success in both business and in life! Everyone has had someone who has opened a door for them. Without connections and mentors, we would all be out on our ear.

If you’re new to business networking, or it’s just not your thing, we have some effective skills for you. Before you know it, networking will become second nature:

  1. Get in the right mindset. Many people look at networking as a form of “work” or as an obligation. Forget the connotation and think of what networking actually is; an opportunity to mingle, have fun, get to know others and expand your potential!
  2. Be genuine. Another unfortunate connotation that comes along with the word “networking” is that you have to put on some sort of pretense. Of course, you will want to be the more professional version of yourself when in a career-centered setting. However, that doesn’t mean you need to stifle your true personality or be someone you’re not.
  3. Watch your language. Make sure your language is that of a positive nature. Practice your wording and speech in order to be your most captivating and positive self!
  4. Listen. Listening is the most important factor when it comes to communication. If you want to network effectively, you’ve got to listen with intent and engage in conversation.
  5. Know who you’re talking to. Be sure to network with a purpose. It’s great to mingle and make friends, but in a professional setting, you’ll want to make connections that will benefit both you and those you meet!
  6. Pay attention to your energy. Body language and energy play a huge role in how we are perceived by others. Make sure your body portrays a positive, open and welcoming message, and don’t forget to smile!
  7. Practice graceful exits. A lot of people think of networking as painfully awkward conversations-the most uncomfortable part being figuring out how to leave a conversation. It doesn’t have to be! We’re all in the same boat. A simple, “It was great meeting you”, or “I’m going to get a drink, would you like something?” will do.
  8. Follow up. When you make a connection with someone, don’t hesitate to follow up! Exchange cards, email, phone numbers, etc. After that, be sure to follow up the next day while the memories are fresh.

Never give up the chance to get out there and network. You never know who you might meet!

Makings of a Leader

img1167269959823595438-e1533073339340.jpgOur mission at Ultra Marketing Consultants is to empower our team to become the best leaders they can possibly be. We do this by guiding and encouraging each person’s unique, individual strengths through mentorship and our proven leadership program.

We believe that everyone has the ability to make an impact, and everyone has the ability to lead. It is our differences and diverse abilities that create such a strong, well-rounded and talented company. While we encourage each team member to nurture their unique talents, there are a few qualities that we believe all leaders should have.

The best leaders are:

Learners. Leaders have an insatiable thirst for knowledge. True leadership means knowing that you can never know everything, so adopting a student mentality is key. It’s essential to learn and grow from personal mistakes as well as the mistakes of others. It’s important to be willing and eager to learn from those around you, no matter how educated you already are.

Empowering. Those with the ability to lead use their positions in a positive way. They affect positive change in the environment around them. Leadership isn’t about power or position, it’s about action and how one influences others. Great leaders have the ability to truly empower others and bring out the absolute best in them.

Authentic. Without trust and reliability, it’s impossible to be a good leader. No one wants to follow someone who puts on a front or puts themselves on a pedestal. Authenticity and the ability to relate is key when it comes to leadership.

Determined. Great leaders are motivated and determined to accomplish their goals. They don’t rely on external motivation; they are able to inspire and motivate themselves as well as others!

Entrepreneurial. Leaders have an entrepreneurial spirit! They are creative, adventurous and aren’t afraid to take risks. They are forward thinkers, inventors, creators, initiators and doers.

Resilient. One major thing that all leaders have in common is the ability to bounce back. The road to success is never a straight shot. It’s full of ups and downs and wins and losses. The journey can be exhausting, but those who possess great leadership skills always pull through.

With the right attitude, ethics and guidance, anyone can become a leader! Remember, it’s not about the title, it’s about action.

The Benefits of Attending Conferences

IMG_4053-1265.jpgUltra Marketing Consultants just returned from a conference in Houston, Texas, and we are feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and excited to apply what we’ve learned to our practices at the office!

We frequently attend conferences for the purpose of training and development. Not only do we get to learn new and exciting trends in the industry, but we get to network with some of the top performers in the business, explore new places, take a break from routine and have some fun with the team!

Gone are the days when business travel was considered an obligatory job requirement. It is fun, exciting, rewarding and we look forward to it! Here’s why!

  1. We love to learn. Here at Ultra Marketing Consultants, we consider ourselves to be lifelong learners. We look forward to educational opportunities and ways to add to our expertise. We are thrilled to work in an industry that provides progressive training.

  1. We’re all about growth. Our team is dedicated to growth and development both as a company and as individuals. Attending conferences allows us to better ourselves consistently.

  1. We get to network. When we travel to national conferences, we are meeting up with some of the greatest talents in our industry. It is the perfect time to connect with others and create new contacts and friends.

  1. It creates opportunity. Traveling to new places, meeting new people and learning new things all create more opportunity for us in our career. Clocking in at a 9-5 behind the same 4 walls every single day doesn’t open many doors.

  1. We get to see new places. We travel to so many different places! We’re so grateful that we have the chance to explore all of the different cultures and exciting sites across the country!

  1. It’s a reward. Being asked to attend a conference shows us that we are an appreciated employee. It lets us know that we are on the right track and that we are respected and valued enough to be invested in.

  1. It’s great team-building. Spending time with the team outside of the office traveling, learning, exploring and having fun is a great way to strengthen team bonds!

  1. It’s fun! Business conferences are fun! Throw out that idea that you have of some stuffy, boring, drawn out meeting. We attend conferences that get us seriously pumped up about our jobs and our future, and we always make plenty of time for fun!

How to Apply the Rules of Sports to Life (and Win!)

Young male athlete makes push ups on a racetrackSports; you know we love them! Why are we so obsessed with sports?! Besides the fun and excitement, we can’t help but to identify with the similarities between the routines and habits of athletes and the routines and characteristics of out team here at Ultra Marketing Consultants.

We’ve found that many of us have a background in sports, and those who don’t have adopted a similar mindset in order to find discipline and success throughout our schooling and career experience.

Here’s our advice on how to apply the rules of sports to life and win!

  1. Always show up. If you want to be a success, show up every time, for everything, no matter what. Obviously, there will be extenuating circumstances when you absolutely cannot show up, but 99.9% of the time, you’ve got to show up and be there on time. Otherwise, you’re going to miss 99.9% of life’s opportunities.

  1. Suit up. Just as you need a uniform for game time, you need to dress appropriately for life events. Going to an interview? Dress to impress. Going to a dinner event? Keep it classy. Going to a theme-party? It’s okay to have fun with it! You always want to put your best face forward and make a great impression.

  1. Learn to motivate yourself. If you want to be the best, you’ve got to get yourself up everyday and make that happen. No one is going to come and make it happen for you. If you want to be great, you need to learn, practice, and incorporate your passion into your everyday life.

  1. Be dedicated to your sport. It’s not enough for athletes to just go to practice then go home and live whatever kind of lifestyle they want. Why should it be different for any other occupation? If you really want to be successful, you can’t just clock-in and clock-out. You’ve got to put in the time after hours to level up on your occupational skills.

  1. Be a trustworthy teammate. Sports simply do not work logistically without trust. Neither does life! You cannot have healthy relationships of any kind without trust. This includes successful business relationships. If you are unable to form trusting, honest relationships with others, you will have a very difficult time finding a successful career path.

  1. Listen to your coach. If athletes aren’t coachable, they aren’t going to make it very far in the sports arena. Likewise, if you are not willing to take advice from others, or at least listen to what others have to say, your growth will be significantly stunted and you will likely have a difficult time working with others.

  1. Always aim to better yourself. If you’ve ever known an athlete, you know that they never stop working on their performance! They are always working on bettering themselves. While perfectionism can certainly be a detriment, it is always a good thing to want to improve and grow as a person.

  1. Never lose your competitive edge. It’s a great thing to be competitive, as long as it’s healthy in nature. Competition can be motivational and fun! It’s even better when you’re in competition with yourself!

  1. Be a good loser and a good winner. You win some, you lose some. It’s all about how you do it.

  1. Never stop learning. You’re never too good or too old to learn. Times are always changing, and with time comes more and more information. Pick out the good stuff and add it to the golden standards. That’s how magic is made!
